In case you find yourself in a pinch and not sure what to do, here is a list of top voting rights you have when heading to to the polls, along with information of whom to contact should you suspect your rights (or someone elses’s!) have been violated.

Your Rights At the Polling Place
  • If you are in line when the polls close at 7 p.m. or at any other time between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day, stand your ground – you cannot be turned away.
  • Your employer cannot keep you from voting as long as you told your employer that you will be taking time off to vote.  The time you take off to vote will be unpaid time, and you cannot take more than two successive hours off from work to vote.  Your employer may set the time that you take off.
  • If you make a mistake on your paper ballot or you “spoil” the ballot, you have the right to receive a replacement ballot.
  • If you cannot read, have trouble understanding English, or have a disability, then you have the right to request assistance from anyone who is not your (1) employer, (2) an agent of your employer, or (3) an officer or agent of your union.
  • Your do not need your ID if you are already registered to vote AND your signature matches the one on file AND there are no questions about your registration.
  • You can register to vote on Election Day by going to your home precinct and showing your ID.  You can then cast a ballot if you have not already voted elsewhere at this election.
  • No babysitter? No problem!  You can bring young children with you to the voting booth.

  • You can get help voting from an eligible relative or friend or from any of the election judges.
